Along with this release allot of camera manufacturers created their own like Olympus PEN 3-PM1, Sony NEX-7, and the Fuji-film X-Pro1 while Nikon stays fit with their family-friendly 1 J1 and 1 V1 models. The best HDR Software: Photomatix(1) As we all know Photomatix Pro 4.2 is released today and the new features brings the best HDR quality images from prints to desktop. Today I will show you what is the real power of Photomatix and how does it makes flat images to a real world photo magic. I am always fascinated on how crisp and clear the details of a High Dynamic Range (HDR) photo. I love how stunning they are to look at. Some photos are dreamy-like, some are artistically exaggerated and some looks amazingly natural. I believe, it is up to the personal taste of the photographer on how he/she views the image and how he/she wants the output to look like. But personally, I prefer HDR photos that look more realistic than surreal. It just gives me the feeling of a 3-dimensional view of an image. Photomatix Pro has been the most recommended HDR software by professionals and HDR enthusiasts. So I thought I should give it a try as well. Photomatix Pro is a software created by HDR soft. Unlike any other HDR software, Photomatix is a stand alone program that runs on both Windows and Mac operating systems. It easily blends multiple bracketed exposures while giving you a great control on the final view of the image. One thing I adore with this software is Tone Mapping, so this would be the gist of my review in Photomatix Pro. Tone Mapping basically maps the dynamic range of colors of an HDR into a normal image or simply, it allows you to bring out an amazing detail of an image from the multiple exposures. Even for beginners I must say that Photomatix Pro’s interface is very understandable. It allows you to have a logical and efficient workflow. It is very easy to load and generate the photos into an HDR. Just by simply clicking generate from the HDR menu or pressing Ctrl + G, it allows you to select the photos and the application will merge the differently exposed photographs to create a single HDR image. While, the generated image may look disappointing at first, Photomatix also permits a variety of parameters to be tweaked to achieve the look that you’ve been looking for. To adjust the image, simply select tone mapping from the HDR menu or press Ctrl + T. 2 methods are displayed in the upper left corner of the image, the Details enhancer and the Tone compressor. Basically, the details enhancer is selected which contains the strength, color saturation, light smoothing, luminosity and the sub menus for tone, color, micro contrast and saturation/hue. There are no specific guidelines for the settings, you just have to experiment the sliders according to the effect you want to achieve. The settings frame will allow you to redo or undo the settings you have done or restore the image to default settings. You wouldn’t worry if you had gone overboard with your adjustments since you can easily see the effects through the histogram at the side bar or the preview window. After you are satisfied with the look of the image, selecting the tone compressor will adjust the image to eliminate the noise and halo around the details of the image but it also results into loss of contrast and detail from the image. Moreover, you can still adjust the image using the brightness, tonal range, contrast adaptation, tone and color sliders. Then you may change your final output to 8-bit or 16-bit. Since I want to create images that look professional, I tend to further enhance the details into photoshop to achieve my desired effect. Another thing is that Photomatix Pro contains a selection of decent presets that you can start with. Although, these presets can’t be applied to most of the images since they tend to create unpleasant effects, minor tweaking into the parameters does the trick! As a conclusion, Photomatix Pro is a good program for HDR processing. It is user friendly and it contains various parameters that you can adjust. I recommend this for beginners in HDR photography like me for it has a wide selection of tools that brings out the minute details and clarity of the image. Plus, it does work fast! It does not cause any lag into my ancient laptop and it process images fairly well. For those, who aim to achieve a look that is professional-looking, I recommend a fine-tuning of the image in photoshop to give the final image an oomph. Overall, the Photomatix Pro is a standalone HDR program that is worth every penny. No wonder, it has been raved in the HDR community. |

Whats with the new Canon EOS 5D Mark III?(2)
The Canon EOS 5D Mark III 22.3 mega pixel DSLR camera might seem like more of a refresh than a revolution, but the follow-up to the HD SLR pioneer not only builds on its successes, but takes cues from the top-end Canon 1D-X. EOS 5D Mark III has a Digic 5+ processor, 61-point auto-focus, ISO range up to 25,600 and, of course the 1080p video at 30 fps, Mark III has stills and movies mastered. Truly Canon made the best and perfect tool for amateurs and professional photographers and film makers.
