Samsung and Apple have been in recent months engaged in numerous court battles across the world over patents and copyright infringements with both companies claiming the other copied aspects of their designs. One of those battles was won by Samsung with a British judge ruling that the Samsung Galaxy did not infringe upon Apple’s patented design and that very few consumers were likely to buy and Galaxy tablet by mistake instead of an iPad.

Nokia is considering partnering with mobile carriers in order to promote its new Windows phone. The company is in talks with several European mobile carriers to become an exclusive supplier of its new Windows 8 based phone. The ramifications of the deal would mean that a company would have a greater vested interest in promoting the phone and hence it’s attractive to Nokia because it would mean carriers would do more to sell their product.

However it will also mean that the device will be available on fewer carriers and hence they risk losing customers who are loyal to a carrier who the phone is not being sold on. The old philosophy Nokia used was the more places a phone is sold the more likely it is that it is to be sold. Unfortunately Nokia’s philosophy may be broken because sales have been at record lows in the last financial year. During the second quarter of this year Nokia recorded a $1.7 billion loss. The company, while admitting that those figures are disappointing said that the Windows 8 phone will act as a catalyst for the company and that they expected the business to turn around in the next financial quarter.

The new dock for the iPhone 5 will be much smaller than it was on the previous models. Apple is planning to replace the current 30 pin dock with a 19 pin connector when it launches the iPhone 5 in the next couple of months.

The reports which come out of Reuters claim that the change is being made to allow for the earphone slot to move from the top of the phone to the bottom of the phone. The current docking system has been around since 2006 and rumours of a change have been around for almost as long. However never before has there been so much speculation about a smaller docking connector.

Some rumours suggest that Apple will go with a micro-USB connector to conform to European regulations which say that all new mobile phones must be standardised and include a micro-USB connector.

However analysts say it’s more likely Apple will simply include a micro-USB adapter with the phone in order to get around the regulations. Other rumours about the phone include it having a wider screen, that it will be thinner, and that it will have 4G support.
